An academic staple updated for the first time in fifteen years, David Alan Black's user-friendly introduction to New Testament Greek keeps discussion of grammar as non-technical as possible. The simplified explanations, basic vocabularies, and abundant exercises are designed to prepare the student for subsequent practical courses in exegesis, while the linguistic emphasis lays the groundwork for later courses in grammar. Revisions to this third edition include updated discussions and scholarship, further back matter vocabulary references, and additional appendices.

A streamlined introductory grammar that will prove popular in the classroom.

--Murray J. Harris, Trinity Evangelical Divinity School

Clear charts, clear examples, clear discussion--what more could one want from a beginning grammar!

--Darrell L. Bock, Dallas Theological Seminary

. . . combines the strengths of a fairly traditional sequence of topics, in generally manageable chunks with clear explanations fully abreast of modern linguistics.

--Craig L. Blomberg, Denver Seminary

Pedagogically conceived, linguistically informed, hermeneutically sensitive, biblically focused--unique among beginning grammars. It sets a new standard.

--Robert Yarbrough, Trinity Evangelical Divinity School

Following intensive preparatory work, the Nestle-Aland 28th Edition (NA28) of the Novum Testamentum Graece is now available. This standard and globally preeminent reference among Greek New Testament editions has been fundamentally revised and improved. The structure of the critical apparatus was simplified and includes the combination of variants using sed or et and the distinction between consistently cited witnesses of the first and second order have now been removed.

Additionally, the readings of the newly discovered Papyri 117-127 are listed for the first time, opening up interesting perspectives particularly for the Acts of the Apostles. In the Catholic Epistles, this edition has been made consistent with the Editio Critica Maior. This led to more than 30 modifications in the main text and resulted in a critical apparatus which is newly compiled in its entirety for this section and includes a new selection of witnesses and variants. The cross-references in the margin were also systematically revised and supplemented mainly with references to early Jewish literature.
  • The standard edition of the Greek New Testament extensively revised
  • The structure of the critical apparatus consistently simplified
  • For the first time with the readings of Papyri 117-127
  • A thorough revision of the Catholic Epistles with more than 30 modifications in the main text
  • The cross-references systematically revised and supplemented
  • Includes a Greek dictionary with English definitions

Text of the New Testament Its Transmission Corruption & Restoration 4th Edition

Text of the New Testament Its Transmission Corruption & Restoration 4th Edition
    $74.99
This thoroughly revised edition of Bruce M. Metzger's classic work is the most up-to-date manual available for the textual criticism of the New Testament. The Text of the New Testament, Fourth Edition, has been invigorated by the addition of Bart D. Ehrman--author of numerous best-selling
books on the New Testament--as a coauthor. This revision brings the discussion of such important matters as the early Greek manuscripts and methods of textual criticism up to date, integrating recent research findings and approaches into the body of the text (as opposed to previous revisions, which
compiled new material and notes into appendices). The authors also examine new areas of interest, including the use of computers in the collection and evaluation of manuscript evidence and the effects that social and ideological influences had upon the work of scribes. The standard text for courses
in biblical studies and the history of Christianity since its first publication in 1964, The Text of the New Testament is poised to become a definitive resource for a whole new generation of students.

This work is a companion volume to the fourth edition of the United Bible Societies' Greek New Testament (UBS4), published by the German Bible Society on behalf of the United Bible Societies early in 1993. It also makes a great companion to the Stuttgart Electronic Study Bible, which contains the critical apparatus of the NA27 Novum Testamentum Graece, and to Comfort & Barrett's Text of the Earliest New Testament Greek Manuscripts. One of the chief purposes of the commentary is to set forth the reasons that led the Committee, or a majority of the members of the Committee, to adopt certain variant readings for inclusion in the text and to relegate certain other readings to the apparatus. On the basis of a record of the voting of the Committee, as well as, for most sessions, more or less full notes of the discussions that preceded the voting, the present writer has sought to frame and express concisely (a) the main problem or problems involved in each set of variants and (b) the Committee's evaluation and resolution of those problems.

Bruce Manning Metzger (1914-2007) was the George L. Collord Professor of New Testament Language and Literature Emeritus at Princeton Theological Seminary. He was the author of hundreds of articles on Bible translation, textual criticism, the Hebrew Bible, the Apocrypha, and the New Testament. He published numerous books, including The New Testament: Its Background, Growth, and Content; The Text of the New Testament; Manuscripts of the Greek Bible; A Textual Commentary on the Greek New Testament; Lexical Aids for Students of New Testament Greek; and The Canon of the New Testament. He was the general editor of the New Testament Tools and Studies series, The Reader's Digest Bible, and The Oxford Companion to the Bible and was on the editorial boards of the International Greek New Testament Project, the United Bible Societies' Greek New Testament, the Revised Standard Version of the Bible, and the New Revised Standard Version of the Bible. He was ordained in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).
