What if we prayed how Jesus taught us to?

Many of us pray with little heart. We mutter the usual and leave with little expectation. But is this how Jesus taught us to pray?

The Lord's Prayer is a prayer according to God's will, a prayer that beckons heaven to crash into earth. Tied to the sure promises of God, it compels us to seek--and expect--His glory in every sphere.

When one prays consistently, persistently, and boldly for the hallowing of God's holy name, big things happen. Radical Prayer gives us a glimpse of the transformative and explosive power of praying in God's will, a power that takes place internally and manifests externally.

Whether your prayer life is strong or in shambles, Radical Prayer will compel you to a life of bold, persistent, transformative, and expectant prayer.

Many Christians today struggle with having a consistent or life-giving quiet time. They are looking for a form of prayer that doesn't make them feel like they're begging God or being judged by him. The Soul at Rest is a quiet time companion that introduces "inward disciplines" from throughout Christian history to those who hunger for greater intimacy with God.

The Soul at Rest is a 40-day guided experience of prayer that puts readers in the presence of God and allows them to enter and enjoy his rest. It guides readers into a rhythm of quiet, contemplative prayer, easing them into God's presence and demonstrating how prayer is not so much a duty as it is a gift. By the time someone finishes The Soul at Rest, they'll not only understand prayer better; they'll be engaging in it as a regular rhythm of life.

"Here is a no-nonsense theologian who goes for the jugular. In Forsyth's company we are aware of both the glory and the gravity of what we are doing when we go to our knees in prayer." -Eugene H. Peterson P. T. Forsyth is sometimes described as an English pre-cursor to Karl Barth. He was born in 1848 to a Scottish family of humble origins and later in life attended Aberdeen University, where he graduated with first-class honours in classical literature in 1869. In 1876 he was ordained and called to minister in Shipley, Yorkshire. In his early ministry in the Congregational Church, Forsyth fought orthodoxy and sought for the right to rethink Christian theology and pursue liberal thought. In 1878, however, Forsyth experienced a conversion from, in his own words, "being a Christian to being a believer, from a lover of love to an object of grace." A profound awareness of pastoral responsibility was awakened which radically altered the the course of his ministry. His conversion thrust him from the leadership of liberalism to a recovery of the theology of grace. Quickly, he became one of the better-known figures in British Nonconformity. In 1894, he received a call to Emmanuel College in Cambridge, where he preached his famous sermon, "Holy Father" in 1896. In 1901, he accepted a position as principal of Hackney Theological College, London where he remained until he died in 1921. Over his lifetime Forsyth published 25 books and more than 260 articles. He is often credited with recovering for his generation the reality and true dimensions of the grace of God.

Talking with God What to Say When You Dont Know How to Pray

Life is crazy. Prayer is simple.

Prayer seems like it should be so simple. Yet when it comes to actually praying, it often feels awkward and complicated.

I mean, what should you actually pray about? What do you say? Is there anything you should or shouldn't say? Do you have to speak out loud? Where do you even start?

To make matters worse, we've heard about prayer for so long that we feel awkward asking about it. It's like having to ask a person's name after knowing them for years. We're embarrassed to ask because we really should know their name by now.

Then comes the reality and craziness of life. Between work, parenting, walking the dog, a full inbox, keeping up on social media--who has time to pray?

The truth is, prayer is simple.

It's like talking; talking with a good friend. Here's the best part: No matter where we are in life, God can't wait to talk with us.

What does it look like to pray in the midst of your life?
What do you say when you don't know how to pray?

I'm asking the same questions. Let's talk.

Do you find praying easy, or a struggle? Here's some help so it becomes a delight.

Based on the Lord's Prayer, which was always intended to be a model for prayer rather than a prayer we learn by rote, Rob White examines each part of the prayer and shows how we can practically apply these to our everyday lives.

One of the most basic and vital dimensions of the Christian life is the practice of prayer. Frequently our prayers begin with a petition or request, so the content of our prayers is informed by our circumstances. But what if the opposite were true? What if we allowed our prayers to inform our lives? What would our lives be like if prayer altered our living and began to shape the contours and content of our daily experiences? Gordon Smith invites us to learn three movements of prayer--thanksgiving, confession, and discernment--in order to be formed and transformed by prayers that seek God's kingdom "on earth as it is in heaven." Whether you are a beginner in the life of prayer or further along, this small book is a resource for deepening your prayer practice.
