When Life Gets Too Hard to Stand, Kneel

You are called to be a prayer warrior. But which name should you call upon?

God has more than one name--each represents a different aspect of His character. When you know which name to call, you will pray more effectively, and more specifically to your need.

In this book, Dr. Tony Evans provides tools to transform your prayer life as you get to know God in new ways. You will...

  • experience God as Jehovah Jireh, "the Lord will provide."
  • allow God to be El Simchatch Gili, "God my exceeding joy."
  • make God Your Jehovah Ori, "the Lord my light."
  • know peace through Jehovah Shalon, "the Lord our peace."
  • take God as your power source as Jehovah Uzzi, "the Lord my strength."
  • make wiser decisions by sitting at the feet of Peleh Yo'etz, "Wonderful Counselor."
  • Revitalize your prayer life by connecting your needs with the characteristics of God's names!

    Praying with the Church

    $18.95
Scot McKnight, best-selling author of The Jesus Creed, invites readers to get closer to the heart of Jesus' message by discovering the ancient rhythms of daily prayer at the heart of the early church. "This is the old path of praying as Jesus prayed," McKnight explains, "and in that path, we learn to pray along with the entire Church and not just by ourselves as individuals." Praying with the Church is written for all Christians who desire to know more about the ancient devotional traditions of the Christian faith, and to become involved in their renaissance today. With his trademark style of getting right to the heart of theological concepts through practical, witty, and memorable examples from everyday life, Scot invites readers to explore: How Jesus prayed, How the Psalms teach us to pray, How Orthodox Christians pray, How Roman Catholics pray, How Anglicans pray, How The Divine Hours of Phyllis Tickle teaches us to pray, And, how praying with the church is an essential part of spiritual formation.

Joy and despair, faith and doubt, love and hate--the book of Psalms covers the range of human emotions. In Psalms for Life, John Eaton explores the poetry of the Psalms as a never-failing source of challenge, comfort, and encouragement. Beginning with Psalm 1 and continuing through Psalm 150, he provides a short reflection on each psalm, distilling and explaining the poet's essential message. He ends each meditation with a brief prayer.

As a distinguished biblical scholar who has studied the Psalms all his life, Eaton writes with warmth, clarity, and authority. As a Christian, he sees the Psalms as prophetic of Christ, revealing vital and often little-known facets of his life and character. As a sensitive and skillful teacher, he draws out the full significance of these ancient songs as a source of wisdom and insight for all who live the Christian life today.

Many Christians today struggle with having a consistent or life-giving quiet time. They are looking for a form of prayer that doesn't make them feel like they're begging God or being judged by him. The Soul at Rest is a quiet time companion that introduces "inward disciplines" from throughout Christian history to those who hunger for greater intimacy with God.

The Soul at Rest is a 40-day guided experience of prayer that puts readers in the presence of God and allows them to enter and enjoy his rest. It guides readers into a rhythm of quiet, contemplative prayer, easing them into God's presence and demonstrating how prayer is not so much a duty as it is a gift. By the time someone finishes The Soul at Rest, they'll not only understand prayer better; they'll be engaging in it as a regular rhythm of life.

"Here is a no-nonsense theologian who goes for the jugular. In Forsyth's company we are aware of both the glory and the gravity of what we are doing when we go to our knees in prayer." -Eugene H. Peterson P. T. Forsyth is sometimes described as an English pre-cursor to Karl Barth. He was born in 1848 to a Scottish family of humble origins and later in life attended Aberdeen University, where he graduated with first-class honours in classical literature in 1869. In 1876 he was ordained and called to minister in Shipley, Yorkshire. In his early ministry in the Congregational Church, Forsyth fought orthodoxy and sought for the right to rethink Christian theology and pursue liberal thought. In 1878, however, Forsyth experienced a conversion from, in his own words, "being a Christian to being a believer, from a lover of love to an object of grace." A profound awareness of pastoral responsibility was awakened which radically altered the the course of his ministry. His conversion thrust him from the leadership of liberalism to a recovery of the theology of grace. Quickly, he became one of the better-known figures in British Nonconformity. In 1894, he received a call to Emmanuel College in Cambridge, where he preached his famous sermon, "Holy Father" in 1896. In 1901, he accepted a position as principal of Hackney Theological College, London where he remained until he died in 1921. Over his lifetime Forsyth published 25 books and more than 260 articles. He is often credited with recovering for his generation the reality and true dimensions of the grace of God.

In this adaptation of her bestselling book, The Daniel Prayer, Anne Graham Lotz unlocks a powerful pattern of prayer for claiming the promises of God.

What is the secret to praying prayers that really "work"? In Storming the Gates of Heaven, a plan for praying effective prayers that God answers is presented through unpacking the ancient prayer of the prophet Daniel, a prayer that moved heaven and changed a nation and one that even today can deliver on God 's promises. It's a prayer birthed under pressure. Heartache. Grief. Desperation. It can be triggered by a sudden revelation of hope. Here is the secret to answered prayer, a promise freshly received, a miracle that lies just over the horizon.
