The Bible and the Business of Life is a volume to honor Robert Banks on his 65th birthday and to mark his retirement as Director of Macquarie Christian Studies Institute at Macquarie University. Banks is perhaps Australia's most original theologian, having written seminal books such as Paul's Idea of Community, The Tyranny of Time, and The Complete Book of Everyday Christianity. In this book's three areas of exegesis, ecclesiology, and everyday life a distinguished caste of friends bridge the alleged gap between the Bible and the Business of Life. They address such issues as the living oral nature of the Christian tradition, the interaction between Ecclesiastes and contemporary film, the theology of vocation in Dorothy Sayers and a postmodern world, leadership, family, education, and verandahs and humane housing design. All with a coherence provided by the Bible, Banks' highly integrated thought, and its influence upon the contributors.

The recovery of 800 documents in the eleven caves on the northwest shores of the Dead Sea is one of the most sensational archeological discoveries in the Holy Land to date. These three volumes, the very best of critical scholarship, demonstrate in detail how the scrolls have revolutionized our knowledge of the text of the Bible, the character of Second Temple Judaism, and the Jewish beginnings of Christianity.

It is the most precious book the world has ever known; yet it is undervalued. It is the most instructive book ever written; yet we can never know it well enough. This mini-guide to the Bible provides an entry point for those who know little about the 'Book of books'; but it does so in such a way as to encourage those who know it better to explore it more fully.

In our increasingly disenchanted age, can we still regard the Bible as God's Word? Why should we consider it trustworthy and dare to believe what it says? Top Old Testament theologian R. W. L. Moberly explains why the Bible is unlike any other book by exploring the differences between it and other ancient writings. He explains why it makes sense to turn to the Bible with the expectation of finding ultimate truth in it, offering a robust apology for faith in the God of the Bible that's fully engaged with critical scholarship and reasonable in the twenty-first century.

This book is a solid exposition of the relationship between the ancient near eastern world and ancient Israel. Contrary to popular conceptions that biblical literature was a response to the post-exilic condition, Kitchen demonstrates that in the light of the explosion of knowledge on the ancient near east it has become impossible to maintain critical and minimalist positions on the history and development of Israel and its religion. If one does decide to hold such a view, Kitchen explains that doing so makes Israel the only ancient nation incapable of transmitting its history and having elaborate religious rituals, which we now know were common characteristics of ancient civilizations from even before the time of Moses. Kitchen further explains that the modern minimalist views were born out of 19th century German critical theory, at a time when such knowledge of the ancient world simply did not exist. As a result, such scholars had to perform their research in a historical vacuum, and thus reconstructed the history of ancient Israel which has turned out, in the light of later research, to totally contradict the rest of the entire ancient near east. The momentum of this 19th century research, Kitchen explains, has carried on into the 20th (and 21st) centuries, coloring the views of many modern archaeologists and Old Testament scholars. This book is very important in the light of recent literature on the subject.

An updated examination of ecclesiology from a Baptist perspective

In this useful book, professor and former pastor John Hammett helps church leaders think through foundational questions about the nature of the church. Blending biblical teaching and practical ministry experience, Hammett presents a comprehensive ecclesiology from a historic Baptist perspective, examining crucial contemporary issues such as church discipline, the role of elders, and church ministry in a post-Christian culture.

This second edition contains updates throughout, including:

  • Substantive changes to chapters on the nature of the church, Baptist church polity, and deacons
  • An expanded chapter on baptism and the Lord's Supper
  • A thoroughly revised chapter on church models like multisite churches and missional churches
  • A brand-new chapter on meaningful church membership

The Biblical Hebrew Companion for Bible Software Users helps users understand the exegetical significance of Hebrew grammatical terminology identified by the program. This resource provides students who utilize biblical language software the insight they need to make sense of the data provided by the program, giving them deeper insight into the biblical text that they could not get by solely reading an English translation.

The Biblical Hebrew Companion for Bible Software Users is ideally suited for:

    • Pastors and ministry leaders who may have learned Hebrew at one time but have experienced the loss of much of that learning
    • College and seminary students who are learning Hebrew and need a guide to help understand the significance of the grammatical terminology
    • Bible software users who never formally learned Hebrew in the classroom and need help understanding the meaning of the terms they encounter

With grammatical terms laid out and discussed in an intuitive and user-friendly format, readers can now spend time focusing on exegesis and applying their findings to their preaching, teachings, study, and writing instead of puzzling over the significance of grammatical terminology and how to apply it.
